چکیده

Introduction: Intussusception is the most common cause of intestinal obstruction in infant & toddler age group. Intussusception is the telescoping of one segment of bowel into the contiguous distal segment. Peak age incidence is between 2 months to 3 years of life. Objective of the study: To prove the efficacy of Ultrasound guided saline hydrostatic reduction, a non surgical, non radiation method in the management of intussusception in children. Materials and methods: Fifty-three children in the age group of 2 months to 3 years with clinical diagnosis of intussusception on whom the Ultrasonogram (USG) guided hydrostatic reduction with normal saline were attempted. 500 1000 ml of normal saline was used for reduction. High resolution USG (7.5 MHz) was used to assess the progress of reduction during the procedure. Results: Our initial experience in the last six years from April 2007 to March 2013 showed successful reduction in 45 children out of 53 attempted reductions.

Ultrasound-Guided Hydrostatic Reduction of Childhood Intussusceptions Using Water Enema

Conventional hydrostatic barium reduction or pneumatic reduction of intussusception is associated with considerable ionizing radiation. The aim of this study was to evaluate ultrasound-guided hydrostatic reduction for childhood intussusception using water enema. A total of 76 children who diagnosed as having intussusception were referred to Doctor Sheikh Children Hospital in Mashhad (northeast ...

Study on Some Effective Factors for Successful Non-Surgical Reduction in Intussusception among Children

Background Intussusception is the main cause of bowel obstruction and one of the most common surgical emergencies that can occur during childhood. That is why this study investigates the effective factors for non-surgical reduction in patients who have experienced successful reduction in intussusception to determine the effective factors. Materials and Methods This retrospective study was perfo...

Indications for repeated enema reduction of intussusception in children.

INTRODUCTION Intussusception is a common abdominal emergency in early childhood. It is idiopathic in more than 90% of cases with incidence of 1.5-4 per 1,000 live births. The treatment of choice is nonoperative hydrostatic or air enema reduction. OBJECTIVE The aim of the study was to evaluate the influence of clinical presentation and symptom duration in non-operative treatment, considering t...

Ultrasound guided reduction of intussusception with saline and comparison with operative treatment.

BACKGROUND Reduction of intussusception under ultrasound guidance by saline has become popular in recent years. However, methods, duration of the procedure and causes of failure are not defined. In this study, we reviewed the patients who underwent ultrasound (US) guided saline reduction and compared them with those who were previously managed by operative intervention. METHODS Patients with ...

Sonographycally guided hydrostatic reduction of childhood intussusception

Background. Intussusception is the most common cause of bowel obstruction in children under two years of age. The proximal part of the bowel and its mesentery (the intussusceptum) enter within that part immediately beneath it (the intussuscipiens). Being pulled by peristalsis the mesenterial vessels get compressed which result in ishaemia of the bowel wall. Most intussusceptions are ileocolic. ...
